In 2002, a study from the University of California, Los Angeles revealed why friendships between women are so special. The study from UCLA found that simply hanging out with friends can stop stress that most of us feel on a daily basis. It found that when a someone is stressed, the hormone oxytocin is released which counters the stress hormone cortisol and can help calm you down.
